  • Position Summary

    Discovery, Inc., the new global leader in real life entertainment with powerful brands such as Discovery Channel, TLC, Animal Planet, HGTV, Food Network, and Travel Channel, is searching for a Staff Accountant – Affiliate Accounting in Knoxville, TN to join our Global Business Services (“GBS”) team.

    The Staff Accountant role specifically includes but is not limited to: assisting with financial models, actively participating in the compliance process for a portfolio of accounts, financial & trending analysis, revenue recognition support, and audit interpretation.


    1. Assist with monthly Revenue/Subscriber Flux analysis
    2. Prepare historical data analysis to recognize and monitor relevant trends
    3. Produce ad hoc analysis to service interdepartmental customers
    1. Support Affiliate compliance with new and existing legal agreements
    2. Prepare documentation for affiliate audit process
    3. Articulate areas of specific concern, and recommend solutions to management
    Financial & Accounting
    1. Calculate, record and monitor revenue accruals, as needed
    2. Prepare assigned account reconciliations
    3. Participate in month-end close process
    Liaise with multiple parties on behalf of the Department and/or Business
    1. Work directly with internal customers to support the business, and communicate departmental perspective


    * Bachelors in Accounting or Finance required
    * CPA (preferred)
    * 2-4 years prior work experience (cable or media industry, preferred)
    * Must have the legal right to work in the United States
    * Excellent analytical skills, and critical thinking
    * Technically proficient in MS Excel (experience with pivot tables, lookup formulas, IF statements, etc)
    * Ability to read and comprehend complex legal agreements
    * Excellent communication skills
    * Ability serve multiple customers (both internal and external)
    * Ability to work efficiently, and design/implement process improvements
    * Highly organized and able to manage priorities effectively
    * Must be detail-oriented and able to deliver on multiple timelines, within a customer-centric environment
    * Must possess the ability to manage sensitive and confidential issues
    * Proactive, effective communication skills with strong organization skills
    * Comfortable working in fast-paced, rapidly changing environment
    * Exemplary business acumen with the ability to develop and foster positive relationships

    * Proficiency of SAP a plus
    * Experience in creating financial and other data models a plus
