    The Role

    The Vice President of Content Strategy and Strategic Partnerships will have a unique opportunity to help define and lead our content strategy and to create long lasting strategic partnerships to advance our mission of transforming teaching and learning globally. The ideal candidate will excel at identifying strategic opportunities to leverage the Discovery Education brand and global reach to negotiate partnerships that enhance the value of our products and services and drive increased revenue and profitability for the company.

    This is a critical and highly visible position which requires the individual to serve as an ambassador for Discovery Education and effectively communicate our value proposition. Strong relationships with a wide range of companies, organizations, institutions, industry leaders and the creative community will drive innovative content acquisition solutions that translate into positive business outcomes. This role requires excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work well in a fast-paced, team environment.

    Responsibilities

    1. Own strategic relationships and negotiations with new and existing content partners; optimize the content partner experience
    2. Work cross-functionally with internal teams to identify and evaluate potential opportunities and leverage the full breadth of the Discovery Education brand and global reach
    3. Position and present our value proposition in a compelling and authentic way to potential partners; clearly articulate the value and unique differentiators of Discovery Education in the marketplace
    4. Manage the full business development pipeline/deal flow from prospecting to onboarding
    5. Build financial models, p/l statements, and pro-forma documents to analyze potential strategic partnerships and acquisitions
    6. Create and implement effective content strategy to identify new content partners
    7. Represent and evangelize the Discovery Education content platform at industry events, conferences, and other meetings
    8. Leverage data on content performance and audience demand to build licensing models and deal structures
    9. Work with internal teams to identify content needs
    10. Administer content licenses to ensure Discovery Education compliance with all terms, including payment and application of advances, minimum guarantees, and royalties
    11. Monitor and review financial performance of content assets, recommend necessary optimization strategies, and implement to achieve defined business objectives
    12. Manage architecture and use of Discovery Education’s primary content asset database to maximize effectiveness and efficiency
    13. Manage all content asset data, held and processed across disparate data systems, to provide unified view of content asset use and performance
    14. Provide accurate rights data for all product owners and ensure that all content used in products and services meets rights requirements

    Requirements

    * At least 8 years of experience in multimedia/producer relations/content acquisition
    * Knowledge of and ability to implement content licensing process
    * Ability to work with legal and finance on rights issues and deal structures related to educational media
    * Proven track record of initiating and successfully driving new business opportunities in the educational, media and/or digital space
    * Experience shaping agreements and relationships with a diverse set of partners to include producers, developers, and owners of content
    * Demonstrated comfort with analytics, modeling and presentations
    * Ability to retrieve, organize, and communicate data related to asset management
    * In-depth knowledge of the K-12 educational media marketplace, including available content and product types, content sources, and purchasing trends
    * Ability to effectively communicate, collaborate, and meet the content needs of all internal teams in geographically dispersed offices
    * Effective oral and written communication skills
    * Legal right to work in the United States
