    The US Affiliate Sr Manager is critical to Discovery Communications Finance and Accounting Organization. This role is integral to ensuring the Company properly mitigates risk related to active affiliate contracts, tightly manages working capital, while maintaining the highest degree of internal and external customer service. The Sr Manager will lead a team to execute on all aspects of the affiliate operations process.

     

    The Sr Manager will need to maintain an in depth understanding of all Billing & Contract related issues, and hold a strong command for customer level information. The Sr Manager will be expected to liaise with internal customers, and act as the subject matter expert for all US affiliate contracts.

     

    They will provide meaningful explanations related to month over month billing variances, trend analysis, and key performance metrics. They will have organizational ownership over several Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) operating controls and will be the functional lead for several month-end Close activities.

    Responsibilities

    1. Create and improve processes to enhance departmental efficiency
    2. Generate regular analysis and ad hoc reporting, communicate findings cross-departmentally
    3. Function as the subject matter expert on a wide portfolio of customer accounts
    4. Manage several aspects of month-end Close activities
    5. Maintain strict adherence to Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) controls
    6. Analysis
         a. Perform monthly Revenue/Subscriber Flux analysis
         b. Analyze historical data to recognize and monitor relevant trends
         c. Produce ad hoc analysis to service interdepartmental customers
         d. Develop complex models using multiple data sources
         e. Develop and communicate independent insights to management
    7. Compliance/Collections/Audits
         a. Monitor Affiliate compliance with new and existing legal agreements
         b. Read, interpret, and apply contract terms (must demonstrate clear, and supportable judgment)
         c. Articulate areas of specific concern, and recommend solutions to management
         d. Work with external customers to resolve AR and payment issues
    8. Liaise with multiple parties on behalf of the Department and/or Business
         a. Work directly with external customers to resolve outstanding issues, and maintain working relationships
         b. Work directly with FP&A, Sales, and Legal to support the business, and communicate departmental perspective
         c. Work directly with Auditors (Internal/External) to provide information and fieldwork deliverables
    9. Perform other duties as assigned

    Requirements

    What you need to have:
    * Bachelors in Accounting and/or Finance required
    * 5-10 years prior work experience (cable or media industry, preferred)
    * Experience managing multiple direct reports
    * Must have the legal right to work in the United States
    * Excellent analytical skills, and critical thinking
    * Technically proficient in MS Excel (experience with data sets in excess of 100k lines, pivot tables, lookup formulas, IF statements, etc)
    * Demonstrated ability to create complex financial models
    * Ability to read and comprehend complex legal agreements
    * Excellent communication skills
    * Ability serve multiple customers (both internal and external)
    * Ability to work efficiently, and design/implement process improvements
    * Highly organized and able to manage priorities effectively
    * Extremely detail oriented
    * Must be detail-oriented and able to deliver on multiple timelines, within a customer-centric environment
    * Must possess the ability to manage sensitive and confidential issues
    * Proactive, effective communication skills with strong organization skills
    * Comfortable working in fast-paced, rapidly changing environment
    * Exemplary business acumen with the ability to develop and foster positive relationships

    * Must have the legal right to work in the United States 


    It’s a plus if you have:
    * Proficiency of SAP
    * Experience in creating financial and other data models
