Position Summary

Discovery’s Digital Ventures Group: 

Discovery’s new digital venture arm is focused on accelerating growth through new investment and innovation. This group will focus on expanding the business and brands beyond pay-TV platforms toward a true convergent media and entertainment company. Discovery Communications satisfies curiosity and engages super fans with a portfolio of premium nonfiction, lifestyle, sports and kids programming brands.

Discovery reaches audiences across screens through digital-first programming from digital content holding company Group Nine Media, Discovery VR, over-the-top offerings Eurosport Player and Dplay, as well as TV Everywhere products comprising the GO portfolio of TVE apps and Discovery K!ds Play.

Responsibilities

The Discovery Ventures group is a newly created incubator program within Discovery International. In its early stages, the group is seeking a VP Marketing to lead all of the marketing efforts for the launch of the Kids App outside of the U.S. Collaborating and leveraging the broader Discovery network, and reporting into Jay Trinidad, President of Discovery Digital Ventures Group, he/she will lead and build a best-in-class marketing function from scratch that is deeply metrics driven. The goal ultimately is to drive customers/users to the Kids App successfully. Specifically, this person will:

1. Lead the charge across the whole customer lifecycle from acquisition to engagement and retention

2. Develop and deliver a brand/mission statement that positions the Kids App, as a true leader in the space; create and execute on a sophisticated brand journey for the newly launched app

3. Create and implement a truly balanced marketing program that flexes between performance marketing and brand

4. Create, lead, and oversee a marketing strategy that will take the company from initial launch through successful growth

5. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to execute marketing and partnership plans and activities; collaborating with both the product and content leaders internally and within the broader Discovery network

6. Oversee and create all goals and KPIs relating to Growth Marketing, including but not limited to acquisition, retention, lifecycle marketing, and revenue metrics, and ensure the proper execution of marketing plans to achieve those goals

7. Initiate, structure, and engage high impact strategic partnerships (both internal and external)

8. Understand how to work effectively, influence, communicate, and drive boarder awareness for the Kids App initiatives within broader Discovery

9. Identify and evaluate new opportunities and emerging channels; successfully execute the Kids App marketing business regionally and locally around the world outside of the U.S

10. Successfully influence product creation and enhancement through marketing efforts

11.Ultimately be responsible for leading a best-in-class marketing team and effort; see the growth through from ground up 

Requirements

* Experience in a high growth, digital and tech first B2C company or division of larger company; experience with targeting parents/kids ideal

* Relevant work experience in strategic management of full funnel media channels (digital, TV, social media, search and affiliate)

* Ideally bring hands-on experience operating in markets outside of the U.S; and/or a strong understanding of building and leading business globally

* A customer and consumer-first background

* On the cutting edge of progressive marketing technologies and techniques; “in the know” on what is happening in the competitive marketplace, stays ahead of trends

* Extensive familiarity with using customer segmentation and data, test, target and measure marketing campaigns and advanced, innovative digital strategies.

* Significant experience working with small/start-up brands or within transformative business units within a larger global established brand to formulate a brand value and marketing program

* Experience managing a CRM and data system to enhance a subscription and advertising business, and more effectively communicate and engage consumers

* Ability to comfortably flex between being a builder and hands-on, and effectively managing and building a high performing team

* Proven leadership of a multifunctional marketing and data organization, responsible for driving significant revenue impact

* Ability as an expert marketer both internally an externally

* Deep acquisition and performance marketing experience

* Ability to scale and ultimately lead a high-performing global team

* Able to manage within a fast-moving company; and adapt to a dynamic industry

* Highly collaborative leader and team player

* Must have the legal right to work in the US
